It’s officially the holiday season as we enter the tail-end of 2020, and more than ever, are we in need of love and community. Insert the Feed Your City Challenge, described as entertainment’s most massive response to the COVID-19 pandemic. Founded by music industry legend Tony Draper and former NBA player Ricky Davis, the event makes its tenth stop on its nationwide campaign to fight the effects of COVID-19 as the number of cases increases worldwide.
On Saturday, November 21st, in the afternoon, Feed Your City took over Compton, giving out free groceries provided by hip-hop legend Dr. Dre. With Compton Mayor Aja Brown in attendance, volunteers distributed over 175K pounds of groceries to the community, including fresh produce, meat, holiday turkeys, and essential PPE supplies. The line started at Wilson Park and stretched out for over 5 miles.
Poli Alert was in attendance to speak with Mayor Aja Brown about what it means to give back to Compton, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic, what it means to have Dr. Dre on board, her thoughts on the election, and what to look forward to in the city next. Nick Cannon and other celebrities were present as well.
What does it mean to be here today doing the #FeedYourCity of Compton?
Today is about love and unity, taking care of one another. Community, showing up for one another. It’s an honor to partner with Feed The City, the sponsorship with Dr. Dre is wonderful. Awesome for people to see and feel his love as well around the holidays.

What does it mean to have the legendary Dr. Dre partner up? That’s a GOAT right there.
It’s an honor. Dr. Dre has done so much behind the scenes, so it’s wonderful for the community to see its impact on the community.
What are your thoughts on this year’s election?
Just ready to move forward. I’m happy that there’s a change. I know there’s so much work to do, but I’m hopeful more people are engaged and being aware, will have the power to hold elected officials accountable. It’s a good time.

What can we look forward to in the city? What are you most excited about?
Great projects coming forward. We’re doing a whole new downtown revitalization starting next year. We’re doing an innovation hub, critical community building and infrastructure we’re launching at the top of 2021 as well. We also launched the Compton pledge, which is a guaranteed income pilot where we’re providing 800 families with about $800 a month for two years. Just taking care of Compton.
Anything else you’d like to let us know?
Happy holidays and God bless everyone.
